The Thanksgiving Duck
I wrote this ove 10 years ago, and it still holds true for me today. Tomorrow we celebrate Thanksgiving, and whether you celebrate or not, take a moment to think of the things you are thankful for.
Thanksgiving Day was approaching
The men all went out to hunt
Mom wanted a great big turkey
They came back with a single duck.
She cleaned, and plucked, and cooked it
With orange sauce and tea ,
Brought it out to the table -
Where sat twenty three…
Her nerves were a little frazzled
She wasn’t sure what to say,
A tiny little duck to serve
Here on Thanksgiving Day.
Then Uncle Bud, with grin so wide
Did break the silence there,
He stood up tall and looked around,
Then sat down in his chair.
"I’m thankful for this bounty
The food’s not great but look!
We have good health - each other,
We’ve kids, and dogs, and books".
Then each in turn spoke up to say
How thankful they each were
For friendships and the blessings
Among the many there.
Somewhere within that laughter,
The talk, the smiles, and such
The dog snuck up and snagged it -
That ‘ol Thanksgiving duck.
But no one seemed to notice,
Their hearts were full you see,
Who cares if dog got lucky
Stuffed full of duck with tea.
Perhaps it’s not the food you eat
Or how you serve the goods
It’s counting all the blessings,
Remembering all the thoughts,
That bring us here together
Whether families or online -
Happy Thanksgiving wishes all!
Have a "bountiful" time.

At the Edge of the Pasture
This is the view at the edge of the pasture. There are 12 acres of woodland with a stream running through. The colors are beautiful this year!

Flight
November always makes me think of the beautiful browns and bronzes of the Autumn grasses, the abundance of seed heads in all colors and shapes, and the wild birds that live in our pastures.

They Come
I love the idea of a Halloween season. October brings out my dark side. The reality though, is that my dark side is more akin to a cloudy day than anything sinister and creepy. I don't even watch horror movies.

Midnight Ramblings
If one black hole swallowed another black hole, would the dynamics of ultra gravity squared cause an explosion that would create another universe…..or would it just be a galactic fart????

Sunflower Vignette
This is the wild variety of sunflower that grows everywhere here. These are growing by the back porch.

The View Outside My Window
It's sunflower season here. The culverts and roadways are filled with the cheerful beauty of the wild variety of sunflowers. The ones in the photo are "bird planted" from the bird feeder. These flowers are my favorite...they always make me smile. When I die, I want my ashes scattered in a field of wild sunflowers. I can't imagine a more perfect place for my spirit to fly free.

Lightning Moon
This is kind of an obscure moon name for August, but it sure fits the weather this month. This is the last of the moon series. I've come full circle and created all twelve. I think I'll miss doing them.

Cicada
This is my last "bug" faerie. I've kind of run out of ideas. I hope you've enjoyed seeing these as much as I've enjoyed creating them!

Moon of Claiming
I tried to research the name of this moon, but came up with very little information. If anyone knows the meaning behind this, please let me know.

When the Poo Hits the Fan
I love it when someone leaves an honest comment. I don't get many, but those that I get, I cherish. They make me smile....they make my day. Unfortunately, there are those who use blogs as spam banks. They take up space, and dirty up pages. I have become the target of one particular idiot......Anyway, I've changed the settings to make it more difficult to post a comment. I'm sorry. Keeping up with the spam creep was getting to be too much on a dial up. Just know that I totally appreciate each and every view. I hope you continue to visit.

Ladybug
I missed last Friday (hey, none of you wrote to say I missed it, so it's your fault! LOL) Anyway, I'll be gone tomorrow, so I'm posting this evening. I hope you are enjoying these little "bug" faeries as much as I'm enjoying creating them!

Green Corn Moon
In my little corner of the world, this moon might be known as the "Wheat Harvest Moon". The neighbors were out harvesting fields of wheat by moonlight last night.

Thank You
This is a thank you card for all of the animal clinics that offer low cost spay and neuter services. A thank you to the Kansas Humane Society for caring. Thank you to those of you who have taken on the responsibility of caring for a feral cat population whether it be in a city, a town or out in the country. These animals need kindness and caring even more than our beloved pets, even though that care comes in such a different form, and many times with total frustration. It can seem like a thankless job, but you make a difference, and this world is a better place because of you. Thank you.
